Last club night in August Saga and 40K, and introducing X-wing at school

At last another game of Saga and this time we played one of the scenarios properly. As I looked across at the mere 3 units in the waiting houses I thought easy peasy, this will be a cake walk. I was needless to say some what shocked when I realised at turn 4 I was unlikely to win with taking on each house and its resident Scots. Slowly victory fell to the Normans but it was a much closer game than I would have thought. I love it when this occurs as we all go home happy.
Normans closing in on the hidden Scots

My Scot opponent carefully considering how best to stay safe and out of harms way with 50% less than what I had.
40K has garnered interest again as the streamlining of the rules has brought some players back to the game. I have not had the pleasure yet but will soon. Some are very happy with the changes but out Blood Angels player felt a little ripped off when his usual heroes did not do what was expected of them.
Blood Angels not quite what they used to be?

Nice Necron force to cause mischief

Forgot to bring the other desert mat
Infinity at a club members house

The other table outside on a mild winters day, gotta love gaming in Australia

My Gorgos that has been more a hit than  a miss I have to say, not to bad in the game at all.

Note the micro-machines and pumice asteroids. This was an intro to X-wing that hopefully will see a few kids at school join the club and then play with the real toys.
Remember peoples that we play every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the Month.

September Happenings at the club

Life has been rather busy for me of late and blogging has had to take a back seat but here are the latest images from last Tuesdays club night.
Saga 4 way or really just two versus two, an unlikely alliance of Irish and Byzantines against the vicious Vikings 4 points per player

Byzantine General showing the usual ability to bribe his way to victory!!!!

First game for my ally but he picked up game very fast and played well in the actual game. First game for the Irish commander too.

See the nice wee farm? Well unbeknownst to me a horde of invisible Irish spear chucking nasties lurked behind the hedge.

Wonderful all female Byzantines, most of the minis are from Eureka miniatures in Victoria Australia. Sadly I forgot to take any more photos of the game. But alas it is all for the best as the Vikings were well and truly trounced. Well played to the Irish and Byzantines. Saddest moment..... berserkers hit by 4  Byzantine hearthguard. They throw a mere 8 dice and due to the battle board I had 16 dice. Nice. Well you would think so. End result glass canon is no more and the Byzantines escape with a figure remaining and they run away.

Barry's usual Wings of Glory with a huge crowd. There was more yelling and laughter than I had heard in a long time coming from this game. At one stage a Conga line of 5 planes were flying.

End result a win to the Germans this time. After the game most of the lads and lasses moved onto a horror board game. Great to get two games in in one night.
Teaching, year advisor and family has slowed any progress on my painting queue. I have a small 2 box medieval Swiss commission that is underway but here is something I have been working on as well.

Infinity Nomads

Blue and white bases were complete oh 2 years ago........ the rest has been awaiting love for a while.

Grey bases painted by someone else. Second hand stall around 2 years ago as well. I was going to strip them and repaint but realised that the person that had painted them had done a rather nice job. So the paint stayed and the minis join the force. I will have around 50 Nomads shortly but only 20 or so will have been painted by me. Oh well more time to complete the Swiss commission.

Another Infinity training night

Well this is always a giggle, the blind leading the blind. I had a chance to help introduce Infinity to 2 more club members. The last club night they looked on at one of the games and then wandered home to order 2 small forces. Ariadna and Pan-O Nice. The Ariadna were almost completely painted for the night which is pretty good going really for around only a week on the table. The club is actually pretty new to Infinity and I am barely literate in it but at least when we start to get underway we will all be teaching each other. The game was a three way, Nomads, Pan-O and Ariadna it worked rather well but the Nomads were taken out fairly fast. This time around the Pan-O force came out on top. Other club activities were a 4 player game of Saga and the Pathfinder Roleplayers continuing the tales of adventure.

On with the show.                                           SAGA X 4

Dog Solder Back

These ones lasted most of the game but I have to finish painting them.

Saga Night at the club

It does not normally occur like this but everyone at the club decided to play Saga. Out came the 6 point warbands 2 X Viking, 2 X Anglo Saxon, an Irish, a Welsh and a Scots force.

We mixed it up a little and rolled each turn for initiative and this seemed to throw enough spanners in the works to make it harder for the Old Guard to trounce the Young Guard. Woops different game.

My lads (Anglo Saxons) about to be clobbered by two armies of Vikings

Contemplation hmmm since when do Vikings contemplate much other than..........the usual pillaging etc

Old Guard guiding the Young in appropriate use of the Battle Board

Using typical Viking finesse...."see this lot, yep, move 'em all forward like this.."

'tother Vikings on the left flank with obligatory glass hammer. True to their usual efforts, they made short work of one of my units but disappeared in a puff of combat dice.

One of the other games Irish Wolfhounds after some Scots spear chuckers.

The middle game with some nicely painted minis all around.

Near the end for me at this stage.

Final combat with both Warlords taking each others heads off leaving..................

The other Warlord victorious in our three way battle.

Games night last Tuesday

Just a quick update on club happenings.
X-Wing game with new BIG TOY. It took us ages to shoot it down, but with one Imperial fighter left we reduced the transport cruiser to a ruin hulk drifting through space, that will teach the Rebel Scum not to mess with the Empire.

Other games were Pathfinder RPG with around 5 gamers + GM

A nice Necron v Space Wolf battle at around 1200 points. Great paint jobs. Which I can't display as I stupidly took awful photos of.

A nice Saga game of foot Welsh v Bretons/Normans

Rebel Scum with Big Toy

The short lived life of an X-wing rookie

B-Wing Survived well considering

Unlike Vader who did a boot leg reverse in front of the Big Toy and was promptly run over in a shower of Tie Fighter bits

The final shot as Big Toy is left drifting in space as a hulk

Normans about to launch the attack

Foot based Welsh army that has convinced the gamer that a few mounted warriors might just be worth it

Senlac Hill woops wrong battle

I think the game came down to a narrow win to the Normans as the Welsh Warlord was eliminated
