Well at the last club night in September I was able to get the historical miniatures out and on the table. DBA in 28mm, Greek Hoplite army vs the Galatians. My Celts stepped in and a scythed chariot that is none other than a wolf chariot with Celt crewman and scyths, sort of loved the look of it when I bought it and I don't have the heart to get rid of the wolves!
So now the images.
This shows the forces as they come closer together after around two turns of movement.
The Galations Sans chariots
Just about the final blow with a flank wrap on the chariot with the Greek Spear. Greeks won 4-1 elements. I still love DBA for the simplicity and speed of the games yet in 28mm the look is still wonderful so long as your miniatures are painted. often mine are not.
Next up will be a quick chat about MOAB and the demos games.

Da Big Game
Well the big annual apocalypse game has come and gone, huge turn up with 19 coming most played both days! When a 2nd Friday rolls into the 3rd Saturday we can hold a BIG game. Normally it is 40K or Fantasy. This time it was 40K using the old rules as only 2 of us have the new 6th Edition, even with the new boxed set from GW.
The premise of the game was, a planet reappears from the warp after 10,000 years in the void. The Chaos and Imperial want to raid the planet for Archeotech, as they look for the objectives they battle and thus wake the sleeping Necrons, these will pop up somewhere randomly on the board. Unfortunately an Ork rock flys into the reappeared planet and the Orks, being Orks, (My Orks) run to the fight again randomly.
To get the game up and running fairly fast we restricted the armies to 2000points a team with close to the same amount on both sides with the Necrons as bad guys and the Orks as bad guys too. Well at least anti Imperial. Please note that the orange cards actually have a use. The weather is a little foggy and hence the orange cards, they are Blinds, a nifty tool to disguise 2 out of 3 of your units, they may move up to 12 inches for the first turn but at the beginning of turn 2 they are disclosed, are they super heavies/a team of snipers/a huge group of chaos cultists or are they dummies. In hind sight 2 turns undisclosed would have been better.
Mark's very nicley painted Iron Warriors
The necrons enter after our resident collector of old style fantasy minis rolls the random placement!
The bribe to the mini collector does not pay off as he rolls a 1 and I end up behind the Ultra Marines ready to be shot to bits! Money well spent!
The said mini collector hard at work cleaning the next batch of old style fantasy figures!
The landing pad fight that the Chaos forces spent 3 turns capturing.
Yes this is the super heavy that the deffkopters destroy woo hoo!
Beggining of turn 3 Saturday morning note the size of our table 170 square feet?? Well fun for all and I'll see what other photos I can get off others.
In all we had 4 turns with Necrons and Orks turning up at the beginning of the imperial turn 2. By the end of the battle 2 out of 5 objects were held by the imperial, 1 by the chaos, 1 was contested by Orks and Sisters of Battle and the final one welllllllllll, the Orks shot the objective holding Space Wolf scouts to pieces and thus were unable to follow up and engage in assault therefore leaving the objective with no one on it! Orks shooting too accurately this has to be a first. Well actually for this game it happened a couple of times. My personal highlight was the 5 deffkopters flying up to the shadowsword super heavy tank and in two turns blowing it up!!!!!!!! Mind you it does help that a bit of damage was done by others beforehand. Yet I am personally convinced that the Orks were destined for greatness. Just don’t talk about what happened to Gazkull thraka.
Looking forward to next night. Cheers.

Well our last club night saw a nice amount of lads turn up. A couple of real highlights. 1) I survived my Wings of War flight (still find it hard to call it Wings of Glory). 2) A Battletech game occured sorry no big pic just the chaps behind the WOW game. 3) Enough lads for a big Magic the Gathering bash and Malefaux up the back corner. Next week end Sept 14 and 15 should inlclude the big 40K flow over game, as in it will flow over into the Saturday. Mind you I still want to get the historicals out!!!!!
In the above photo that is us the Dreaded Hun on the left. The scenario was to shoot down the recce plane flying up the table centre and then as many of the enemy as possible. We got the Recce plane but lost two in the process and I bravely flew for home ready to fly again in the morn.
Looks like an add for softdrink hmmm.
You can't make it out but up the back behind the first mat is battle tech. Yep the old metal mech game using 6mm walking machine of doom. Still got the rules somewhere but gave away all the mechs, bother really as I checked out evil bay and some of them are going for a song. Adieu.

Remember batteries
Typically we had a good turn out and the batteries were dead in the camera. Thus I shall await Baz's couple of photos. Hmm what was on. Malefaux, wings of war, magic the gathering, and the big surprise was Battletech! Wow I have not seen this played in 20 years outside of a convention! I still have the rules lying around but alas gave the minis away fool that I was.

Well unfortunately I could not make the whole night so instead took a couple of photos of the build up and table set up including an image of some of the new items from the terrain making day on the desert map. Got to play soon getting the shakes not gaming, hmmm, got the shakes shaking dice ouch.
One decent side effect of terrain making days is that you get to inspire others, have a look at this dwarf Blimp made by one of the lads with bits gleened from the day.
The magic lads at it again.

Terrain Day on the Saturday
Well Baz sent the emails off and the notice went to all on the club night. Yet only 7 lads and 3 assistants turned up. Mind you fun was had by all and most walked away with a piece or two and the club ended up with a bunch of half completed pieces of forest and stepped hills that I'll work on this week.

When your kids and mates do minis.
As a seasoned veteran I have roped my sons into games as well. They play most of what I play, paint better than me and the oldest even wrote and published his own set of rules. You can see below celts painted by my good friend Colin and mounted on my sons movement trays for use at CanCon 2012 where he showed off his game to all comers.
Next up are my Caesarian Romans. Again for the use at CanCon on my sons movement trays. Fun was had by all with the Romans coming out on top occasionally but with a good general and some nice dice rolling the Celts won a few times too. His rules, called Resilence, play rather fastand furious with this number of miniatures per side playing out on a 6 foot by 4 foot table in around 1-1.5 hours. Nice for club nights and this is where the rules received the heaviest play tests.
Finally a nice minaitures from Maelstrom in the UK. One of their BaneBeasts, a Skaven like giant rat monster of huge proportions. The club has lots of gamers and some love to game more than model and paint so it falls to others to help paint the miniatures for the table. Enter my sons paint job, for a price of course, not too much not too little. Now if only I could get the whole family painting minaitures for me, ah heaven.
Lets see if I can get some of the Plastic Soldier Company minis up and on the table soon, I feel a Flames of War game coming.
Oh next meeting on the Saturday is terrain making, lots of foam, flock and glue, time to get something other than toy soldiers painted up.

July Friday night meet
Well we had 15 turn up to the usual club night. Two played 40K 5th edition (no one owns the new rules yet) 6 played FOW, more as an introduction to the game for 4 of them. Two of us are seasoned veterans of FOW and a swag of the lads played Magic or just chatted! Which at times is one and the same thing.
I do hope to see FOW take off in the club. Some of the lads are keen and see it as a cheap alternative to the usual GW fare. Personally I am of the opinion it is a cheaper and better game than 40K and the latest edition of Warhammer. But then I am biased as I prefer history!

Winter Con
Well my trip with Barry to Winter Con in Canberra a couple of weeks ago was a success. More lead and Resin to paint or store on the shelf. Did not selll my second hand stuff at the bring and buy but had a good couple of trial games of Hordes, Warmachine and Infinity. I also had a chance to leap in with Barry and Zoe for the obilgatory WoW or Wings of Glory game. This of course saw me shot down as per usual, actually the vile enemy flew into me and knocked me from the sky, typical.
The unusual highlight was winning the Warmachine Box set after the show. Now that was a stoke of luck as it were. What is real nice is that our club is looking at skirmish games and with the lads wanting 1-2 shorter games per night we might be able to play this! Thanks to the guys from Wintercon the prize is great and hopefully the club will give it a go! I have to admit I did like the system myself!

2012 July 1st
This is just a quick run to say something again. I really do plan on giving this a go from now on in but hey, my efforts so far have been appalling. That said the club is stronger than ever with lads and lasses from 12-60 something! With around 30 gamers playing miniatures, card games like MTG and even role playing games some nights it gets hectic. A good nights has 20 people and we do run a Saturday effort for the younger crowd but this might open up for the older chaps too.
Well enough for now let us see if I can update this more than once every 3 years or so.
