Happenings at the Club, Infinity, RPG, 40K and Wings of Glory

Sorry Club updates have been a little hit and miss over the last month or two. Forgetting camera, running out of time you know all the usual reasons but really everyone at the club knows I am just slack. For those visiting Moruya or old members coming back to visit their parents just a reminder when we meet.

2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the Month. The only reason we ever cancel is when we are all sick or the Church has a function. This needless to say is not often. Oh where are we? Presbyterian Church Hall Moruya.

On with Feb 2nds night just a few images of games in progress.

Wings of Glory

This was a 4 Brit plane (and players) vs the Huns Balloon and Anit Aircraft Gun trucks (AI controlled)

Our illustrious wing commander just before take off, ponders the likelihood of success.

We circle the balloon and shoot away but keep picking up low damage cards, alas the balloon starts to be drawn back down towards the ground if it gets there after 9 turns we have failed.
Damage mounts as the balloon catches fire.

Note all the aeroplanes under the balloon well right at this moment it finally falls and attempts to engulf the swarming fighters.

Gone, a fitting end for a clever artillery spotter.
Set up time, thus chat time

Infintiy Ariadna vs Yu Jing (we need to seek sponsorship from a certain soft drink company)

New members Yu Jing you should see the basing on these guys, Koi Ponds and gardens i kid you not, Koi Ponds!

Spot the minis in amongst the terrain

From memory the Yu Jing fell to the Ariadna but as it was more or a training game I felt that they went rather well.

40K using the venerable 5th edition only some some of us grey beards have not bothered updating to the what is it 23rd edition yet.

Roleplayers, after the game eith Munchin or Magic the Gathering come out.
Nice little shot of some Infinity style close combat, we are still coming to grips with how this works.

See you in a week or so chaps.

Sword and Shield 1st attempt with a few units a side

The games we play on holidays. That should have been the title as this is one of a few games from different rules that I have recently had whilst on my long break from work. A bunch of us from the club made it to CanCon and either bought too much or not enough and another post in a few days will display my loot but I thought that it was about time the old medieval minis made it onto the table again.

I had heard a lot of good things about the Sword and Spear rules and though rules and dice had been purchased, measuring sticks had been made and even a whole new army painted I still had not had a game. So last weekend one of the club members also known as my gallant son wanted a proper game with me. (must be after something). A quick check over the minis, drag a handful of terrain out and plonk it all down on his games mat. We were off.
French vs English HYW during the first turn. Only 8 units a side just so we can get our heads around the rules.

We both set up blind, with a large board placed between the two of us. Sort of like a confrontation after the fog lifts.

Note the sneaky English Hobilars making there way with a general through the woods. They moved slow but not so slow that they got bogged down and they forced me to peal away some of my heavy hitters.

Slowly coming together. The large artillery could shoot quite far but just did not seem to cause me much harm.

Notice that my  knights on the left flank have somewhat evaporated. Good shooting there me lad, good shooting.

The sneaky hobilars are about to meet their match.

My dead knights from the archery.

The left flank is about to get messy.

French Knights 1, English Hobilars 0 but I could not get the general too.

At the end of the game the French came out victorious but when we tallied up the starting points we realised that at 8 units a side my French had around 50  points more than the English. Not a really fair battle but better odds then Henry got at Agincourt.
So were the first edition rules for Sword and Spear worth it? Absolutely. Sure we messed up the odd rule or two and I ripped my son off around 50 points in a small game. But the game itself plays fast and feels quite sensible. Even my son wants another game of it so that can't be a bad thing. Now I wonder if I can get the club lads into the game.

What's been on the paint table. Perry Naps and others.

As CanCon nears and my thoughts start turning to a few thousand like minded nutters and the lovely games on display, my paint brush has been hard at work finishing off a few odds and ends to take to sell in the second hand stall. I have done this for a while now and have had enough success that is pretty much pays for my family and I to visit Canberra for the 3 days. It also means that I can afford a few more shinnies to go on the shelf never to be painted, whoops sorry to be painted and gamed with throughout the coming year.

So just a few images of what has been on the desk in one form or another.
Perry Austrian Naps

Elite Miniatures Canon

More Perry goodness

Reaper Bones

More bones

Perry Brits awaiting Sharpes Practice 2?

Mithril Slave girls from the ealier LOTR range

Reaper metal thieves

No Idea but so nice as a zombie hunter

Shadowforge girl that makes 2 zombie hunters

Macedonian Companions

The General

Thessalian Cavalry

Light Horse

Pezetaroi pikemen

A whole Macedonian army missing the skirmishers built and based for Impetus or Basic Impetus or even Sword and Spear. These were painted by Brendan from Drunken Monkey Miniatures, find him on Facebook. But I did the basing and this took what was already wonderful miniatures and turned them into an army. One of the nicest I have owned, even though they are now for sale. Ho Hum

The Year Begins and I have joined the Challenge

Yes fellow friends of Moruya Marauders, I have madly decided to join The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge. You can find it hear http://thepaintingchallenge.blogspot.com.au/
But to start the year I shall introduce what was finished off at the end of last year. I actually won the Warmachine boxed game 18 months ago and even though a fellow member of the club kindly glued them together I had not had the time or inclination to paint them. What with Chain of Command, Saga and Infinity and family and work and illness taking their respective turns. So on with the show.

Menoth Cinerators

Menoth Crusader

Khador Destroyer

Khador Juggernaut vs a Man size comparison

Kreoss

Khador

Menoth Repenter

Khador Shocktroopers

Sorscha

Menoth Vanquisher
So this was the boxed set and then of course I have succumbed to the lure of the new game (still have not played it) and I have picked up some new minis for it, these are also in the painting Challenge.

Winter Guard

Khador Manhunter

Menoth Redeemer

Menoth Revenger
So this puts me a whisker away from 35 points per side which by what I read is around the normal sized small game. Hmm CanCon second hand stall hear I come.
