Games night last Tuesday

Just a quick update on club happenings.
X-Wing game with new BIG TOY. It took us ages to shoot it down, but with one Imperial fighter left we reduced the transport cruiser to a ruin hulk drifting through space, that will teach the Rebel Scum not to mess with the Empire.

Other games were Pathfinder RPG with around 5 gamers + GM

A nice Necron v Space Wolf battle at around 1200 points. Great paint jobs. Which I can't display as I stupidly took awful photos of.

I whipped these up a few weeks back and was quite happy with the super fast paint job. It is amazing how when you look at them they seem fine and yet when the camera does its work you appreciate that the quick job was actually a bad job, oh well I'm not selling them just shoving 'em on the shelf for use later on.....

Some of the RPG minis I've painted this year

Last years painting challenge I entered made me realise how much I enjoy it. Though I game now more than ever before I still probably prefer to paint than game. Yet at times like most it can be a struggle to get both time and motivation to paint. After picking up both the Reaper Kickstarters I thought it about time to paint some of the minis after all it is not like I have a lifetimes supply of lead and plastic out the back waiting for a bit of love, cough , cough. So over the next blog or two will be some of the odd minis I have painted just because.

Introducing Infinity to the lads at the club

I have been very keen to get some of the lads into Infinity. I barely know the rules myself so it will be good if we can all learn them together. So if you are not sure Infinity is a near future Sci-Fi skirmish game with 5-15 miniatures a side. It does seem to work with only three sides but all the games I have seen is only the usual 2 opponents. the game plays fast and furious with troopers going down pretty fast if you don't use cover properly.

We did not use any of the more interesting aspects of the characterisation of individual miniatures but this will happen in time. So 5 miniatures a side including one leader model that was a little better than the troopers. You need lots of terrain set up about 12 inches in and off we go. It is an IGO-UGO game but with a lot of reactivity to the non mover as it were.

The first game was a more carefully considered dance around the table as fire positions were manoeuvred to and after around an hour and a half one side was 3 miniatures down and game over. The two lads really like it (great as far as I am concerned). So images?

Eye Candy how to paint book to "convince" the lads of the beauty of the game

Close to the end, Infinity is rather brutal a reaction shot by the enemy and one critical later and all that armour is useless.

Father Knight huge sword, big gun, lots of armour and hides most of the game, "keeping him in reserve"........ Victory to Pan-O

Game 2 new opponent on the Nomads team (red minis) Pan-O same lad running the blue guys.

 

Clever use of terrain, run up the stairs, then move into the corner.

This time the Nomads won convincingly in around 30 minutes.

 

I really like this game fast, characterful, nice toys and games play out fairly quickly.

Mid April Games night

Just a quick update on club happenings.

1 X 3 way (4 army) 40K game with the Tau Imperial Guard allies on top this time, Tyranids Went down first and then the Space Wolves. The Tau have such a huge amount of firepower with marker lights and other toys.

The Rhino is about to explode and due to appalling dice rolls sees around 1/2 the unit killed by the shrapnel leaving the Tau victorious

 

 

 

X Wing game with 3 sides, Darth Vader and Two escorts were an unknown and could fight one or both opponents. Both were chosen..................

Part way in with considered pondering.

Up close and personal, almost looks like a boarding action, wrong game I guess.

The First blood in the wings of glory game to the Brits but unfortunately they fall from the sky 20 minutes later with so much smoke and flames it was hard to see the table mats, pity really. Great game never the less.

March at the club

Quiet night, only around 8 turned up, lots of the lads have exams and man flu seems to have knocked out many of us as well.

One of the newer lads played in this game and guess what at long last the empire won.

My Bretonnians got a show, first in oh 2 years or so.

Vs the Skaven of Clan plumbium, there are some really nice old school models in the lot. Sadly they did the usual Skaven thing and ran away to fight another day.

 

Yep my two trebuchets on turn 1 both misfired. Argh, yet the roll just left them unable to fire this turn.

As you can tell this is why the empire won.

I bought my Chain of Command along for a couple to the guys to use whilst I snotted the Skaven, it was great to see some Russians against the British Paratroops, must have been 1946. Seems the guys are picking up the rules pretty fast.

RIP Terry Pratchett

Sad to hear that Terry Pratchett has passed away. I had the chance to get a book autographed by him oh close to 15+ years ago. Supposedly later in the day he pulled out a cocktail shaker and made himself a G&T with dry ice. Well I think I will have one in his honour this afternoon after work. Yep one author I will miss.
